My name is Randy Hoffman and I am a Studio Teacher.  The first question that usually follows that statement is “What is a Studio Teacher?”  A Studio Teacher is someone who teaches children who are working actors or models while they are on set.  They also act as welfare worker to make sure minors are not being over worked or in dangerous conditions. The next question I usually get asked is “How did you find out about this career?”  It is a profession that you normally do not hear about unless you are working on a children’s show or you are a parent of a child actor or you sit through all the credits at the end of movies and see that one that says “Studio Teacher.”

I actually started my teaching career…in a completely different career.  I graduated from UC Irvine with a B.A. in Film and worked in the film industry for seven years before meeting a studio teacher who ended up becoming my mentor.  She taught me everything I needed to know in order to be the best Studio Teacher (well…second best).  I went back to school for education and attended Cal State Northridge, which is consistently ranked one of the best schools for education in the state.  In 2008, I received the first of my three credentials and started teaching in public schools, while working towards my other credentials.  A Studio Teacher is required to hold at least two credentials (one multiple subject credential for grades k-6 and one single subject credential for 7-12).  This is because there could be a range of age groups on any given production.  In 2009, I received my second and third credentials in Math and shortly thereafter I received my Studio Teacher license.  In the short time I have held my license, I have worked on film, television, and print projects for Target, Mattel, and Disney with such talent as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Melissa Peterman, and Stan Lee.  If you are looking for a Studio Teacher, feel free to contact me by clicking the link below.
